Best of/Worst of: Luella for Target

Luella Bartley, Target, Go International... it's old news by now. The advertisements have been in every magazine and the commercials have been all over TV, ultimately destroying the original purpose of the line.

The line was created with intentions to provide fans of Luella's clothing with threads that appear to be designer, only at a much more affordable price. However, because the clothes have been plastered everywhere, there are some pieces that are impossible to wear without making it obvious that they are from (!gasp!) Target.

Regardless, the clothes are still Luella's designs, and the clothes are still really awesome. There are just a few pieces that should be avoided, or warn with caution:

First, the Strapless Tartan Plaid Dress. When the line first came out, I excitedly rushed to Target and picked up this dress. Needless to say, I have still not worn it. If paired with the right jeans or leggings and a sweet cardigan, it can be pulled off nicely. Just know that everyone will realize it's from Target. And please, please, please.. do not wear it over a white T-shirt with a leather jacket.

Next up: the Grommet Tulip Skirt in Green. Still expect everyone around you to realize you bought this at Target. If you already have it or are planning on getting it, try dressing it down with an unzipped hoodie and sneakers, or dress it up with a button down collared shirt and a belt around the waist. Just make sure you don't wear it with a black and white striped polo shirt, as it was worn in every advertisement.

Lastly, anything in this Graffiti print. Not because it's obviously from Target... just because it's really ugly. Sorry, Luella, but this stuff is just gross. Then again, so is anything peice of clothing involving the words "punk princess". Unless you want to look like a ten year old who had fun with markers, stay away. I would offer suggestions on how to make it cute, but really, there is no hope.

Now, onto cuter things. Aside from the aforementioned and the other obviously-from-Target pieces, the rest of the line is really, really, awesome. Here are some personal favorites:

Just in general, all of this cherry print stuff is really awesome. None of it was really over publicised (except maybe the skirt). My favorites are this T-shirt and the button down.

Everyone should own one of the Puff Sleeve T-shirts. I am definitely making an attempt to purchase one in the near future. My sister has one and wears it with dresses over it. It's cute, classic... and on sale now for ten bucks!

Next, the Ebony Twill Pants with Front Seam . I have them and wear them all the time. They're so flattering! And (in general), they're just really cool. The suspenders are detachable, so they can be worn a lot of different ways. They can be dressed down with a T-shirt and sneakers, or dressed up with a collared shirt and heels.

If you haven't checked out everything else yet, you can do so on Target.com. As long as you make sure you don't look like a carbon copy of the advertisements, you should be okay.
